Customer Reviews
Absolutely loved Wintzell’s! We were driving through and was looking for lunch but it was so good we’re definitely stopping by Mobile again just to eat here. Food was incredible - oysters were fresh, shrimp and grits were tasty and one of the best gumbos we have ever tasted. Service was excellent - everyone was so friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable.
Came in the day after Mardi Gras about an hour before closing, and the place was still very busy. I ordered the award-winning gumbo and WOW — it absolutely lived up to the hype. It was delicious and honestly the highlight of the visit. I would come back just for another bowl of that gumbo. My husband ordered the crab fingers. They were okay — a few tasted slightly overdone (not burnt, but possibly fried in older oil). Not terrible, just not a standout compared to the gumbo. Considering how busy they were and how late we came in, the experience was still solid overall. I’d definitely try this spot again whenever I’m back in town.
The oysters on the half shell were perfectly sized and tasted amazing. The sangria was delightful. Ben the bartender was very engaging and attentive.
We loved it! This was our first time and I left bummed that I didn’t bring a cooler so that we could take home a couple of gallons of gumbo. Good Lord! The gumbo was terrific! And the price was right!
The chargrilled oysters are a must when eating here! I also recommend the red snapper, hands down one of the best fish I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to come back!
