Whataburger

Update: Decided on a repeat visit 4 mo after an earlier visit. During a Saturday afternoon between lunch and dinner time. Ordered the standard Whataburger with cheese, no other customizations, the Whataburger Jr and a large onion ring. We ordered using the drive-through. Compared with our earlier visit, we found the service much improved. The staff were helpful in explaining the menu options, the wait was modest (5 min) and payment and food delivery was accomplished with a cheerful attitude. The food quality was distinctive in that the bread and the ingredients were fresh (especially the lettuce). On this visit: Well done, Whataburger! The burger was just fine for a fast food joint and it’s open 24* which are both positives. The lettuce and onions on the burger were fresh cut not that freeze dried rehydrated mush you see in a lot of ff restaurants. We stopped by on a Saturday evening and it was crazy busy. They were overstaffed, but it is a newly opened restaurant and I’m sure they will weed out the dead weight eventually. They did offer regular ketchup and a spicy ketchup condiment. Love the spicy ketchup. It was excellent.

So this location opened not too long ago. I would have figured the kinks would have been worked out but they are not. To start with, they were getting almost every order wrong. People were coming into the restaurant after going through the drive through because their orders were wrong. I had to send my meal back twice because they got it wrong. Also, the food itself was overcooked and not tasty at all. My burger was squashed as well. The employees were trying to be helpful but seemed very uninterested in the customer experience.

It is fast food so as far as fast food goes it was ok. By that I mean it certainly is edible but with what I ordered, it was nothing special. What stands out is the service and friendly staff. I loved that they offered a grilled chicken sandwich. Again it was good but nothing special. The boneless buffalo "wings" were chicken nuggets with buffalo sauce poured on it. Truthfully, I actually enjoyed them. To me these were better than others I had eaten from actual places known for their wings. The strawberry shake was awesome! Maybe I just ordered the wrong sandwich. It was my first time going to Whatabuger (anywhere) and the menu has quite a few things to choose from. Service was great, employees were friendly and the manager really took pride in her work. Made me proud as im orgionally from texas. The visit made me feel welcome and like I was back home.
