UPS N' DOWNS

We came to UPS N’ Downs for dinner before the Santa Clause Parade. My wife and I both got burgers (Brit Burger & Mushroom Swiss Burger), my daughter got the kids size fish and chips. Everyone enjoyed their meals, and the kids fish and chips meal was a generous size and comes with dessert. The Brit burger was better than the Mushroom Swiss (more flavour and oddly less dry$. The fountain pop being $3.75 with no refill is insane. I’d call this an average experience in terms of sit down restaurants.

Waitresses talked shit about us when we asked to move tables because we were seated right by a draughty window, with one of them saying “well they’d better get appetisers” (we did). Food was very underwhelming, and the ribs were inedible the were so dry. My husband was served a different beer every time, even though he kept asking for the same one, and they all tasted watered down. Service wasn’t great, yet there is no option to not give a tip when you pay by card. Definitely wouldn’t go back.

Went with a party of 5. Was greeted by Julie who was very friendly and accommodating. Food was very good. We asked to move seats as it was a little cool near the door. No fuss was made and they were very happy to reseat us. Fun atmosphere and our waitress was excellent.

I went there to try the famous curry. They told me it wasn’t spicy so I asked them if they could make it spicy. When It arrived it was in in edible as it tasted as if someone had dumped a bag of cayenne powder on it. when I told the waitress her response was well, I guess you shouldn’t have asked for it so spicy she did not offer to fix it and mentioned twice that it was probably my fault for asking. The dish arrived with a ton of white rice in the middle and the curry going around the edges of it. There was so much onion and so little chicken. On top of this. I ordered a bottle of white wine which came to the table warm, and when I asked for an ice bucket, my request was ignored.

We were really excited to dine here with friends because of the restaurant’s reputation for being knowledgeable about food allergies and offering an extensive gluten-free menu. Our waitress was excellent—thorough, attentive, and very understanding when we placed two orders with food allergies. When one entrée arrived with bread on top, we immediately asked about the ingredients. The waitress handled it perfectly, acknowledged the risk, and took the dish back right away to be remade. Unfortunately, what should have been a straightforward situation became very uncomfortable when another employee (an older woman) inserted herself and took over the interaction.
