Traphene Hickman Library

The Traphene Hickman Library is wonderful in so many ways. First it is an achievement of architectural design that fits in well with the surrounding environment. Walk around the grounds and explore and enjoy the surroundings. It is a welcoming space for all no matter your age, young children to us older retirees and everyone in between. The coffee shop downstairs is a nice amenity with a good variety of coffee drinks and has decaf they will use if you like. The library itself is spacious with plenty of comfortable chairs to sit and read, an excellent selection of new books, and shelves and shelves of books to loan. Every time I am there one of the librarians has greeted me, asking if I need help with anything and are always kind. This is the kind of library that is more than just a buildin

The Traphene Hickman Library in Cedar Hill is, in my opinion, one of the best libraries in the entire DFW area. It's a beautiful two-story building with amazing amenities, including a cafe, private rooms, conference rooms, and lovely indoor/outdoor reading areas. The staff is truly A1, always providing excellent customer service. They have a great selection of books and activities; my grandkids love it there! What I appreciate most is their support for local authors with a dedicated area and an easy submission process. I was so honored to submit my urban gardening book. It’s a true community gem.

The new library is absolutely beautiful and has great scenery. I appreciate the fact that it is family oriented and offers a surplus of events for the community. However, there’s one issue that needs addressing. I’ve noticed that, in certain areas, conversations can get pretty loud—almost like it’s a recreational facility rather than a place for quiet study. I believe it would be beneficial to have designated quiet zones, especially on the upper level where adults often seek a peaceful environment. A little bit of silence goes a long way when you’re trying to concentrate or dive into a good book. What a lovely place! Honestly, this is such a cool place to visit any day, for any reason! I love all the nice areas that were created for kids in mind and their parents. We walked the trail and enjoyed the beautiful scenery and peaceful environment. Bonus points for having a coffee cart (white rhino coffee). One thing I’d love to see in the new future, maybe they can open on Sundays at least in the afternoon or have extended hours on Friday! The staff is also super attentive and helpful!
