The West Essex Diner

Situated on the former site of the Versailles Diner, the owner Nick has followed in his father’s footsteps and expanded the family business, West Essex Diner, located on Route 46 East in Fairfield, where my partner and I decided to pay them a visit today. Upon arrival as first-timers, this upscale establishment was fully energized by the music as a local favorite waited for their names to be called for a table from the host, who I knew from a different diner. Within 30 minutes, we managed to get a table by the window at one of the two dining rooms, evoking an airy, bright, and casual vibe. Their menu has everything one can imagine. Ordered takeout, just burgers and one was a turkey burger, which was not hot and tasted funny-like freezer burn or something. Waffle fries were chewy and tough, they went into the trash too. Called the establishment to report it and was told “to come tomorrow and they would be happy to give me a new turkey burger.” I asked for a refund and said I would return the one I received tonight and was refused a credit, again offered “a turkey burger tomorrow.” This is the last time we order from them, they just lost a customer. This place does not seem to stand behind the quality of their food. Be very wary about eating here, in my opinion the quality of their food is declining dramatically! Don’t waste your money and effort like I did tonight.

My girlfriends and I planned a late lunch at West Essex Diner to catch up over a nice meal, and we thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, food, and service. From the parking lot which was sufficiently large, you can already hear the low hum of music and chatter, and once you walk in it's that comforting NJ diner vibe done right. Picture shiny booths, buzzing energy, families and friend groups. The host George greeted us and we were sat in the brighter section of the dining area by the windows. We started with soup since I always get soup at a diner and I went with the soup of the day which was cream of turkey. Very good flavor and went down really well. So I come to this place very often as I think this is probs a good place to get in and out of for a quick place to get something to eat. I am giving 3 stars is because every time you go in there and if your whole party is not present, they will not seat you until the whole party is there. Which I think it is kind of ridiculous. I know why they do it. They do it because they don’t want to hold up a table or the kitchen but still. Also just know how the managers and the hostesses treat you about it is awful. Very nasty attitudes for management and hostess staff. They need better managers and the hostess staff. Servers and the busboys are very nice though!
