The Ugly Pirate Cafe and Bar

Tucked into the side of a building like a secret only the locals whisper about, The Ugly Pirate isn’t easy to find—but that’s part of the charm. No neon signs begging for attention. Just a beer-only bar with room for maybe a dozen souls, and that’s if everyone breathes in. Step inside and you’re not on the Gulf Coast anymore. You’re in some sunburned corner of Panama City Beach circa 1987—gritty, weird, and wonderful. The kind of place where the pizza is handmade, the beer is cold, and the vibe is pure, unfiltered character. Yeah, the pizza runs about $18, but it’s worth every greasy, glorious bite. And then there’s the dog. A hefty, oversized Rat Terrier who adopted me for the night. Parked himself under my legs like we’d known each other for years. That’s the kind of place this is—where

The coolest little spot in town. And it is little - one short bar and maybe 4 tables inside. Great pizza, beers on tap, wine, etc. The decor is just the best - old school pirate dive bar all the way - with nautical lights, pirate flags, signs and stickers covering every inch of the place. I definitely felt I'd stepped back in time to anywhere between 1900 - 1970. The bartender was so nice and attentive, and the patrons were a lot of fun as well. They have outdoor seating, too, but I like the cozy feel inside. I can't recommend this place enough!

We absolutely love this place. When we go to visit the area, The Ugly Pirate is on the agenda! The outside area has plenty of seating. The decor inside is super funky. The staff has always been kind every time we go. And the pizza is delicious! They have multiple beers on tap, as well as hard ciders and a couple kinds of seltzers.

Sarah the employee on shift was just wonderful and had the best customer service I have experienced since myself. The food was delicious, service prompt and Sarah was polite and patient. I will rewritten asap and also will spread the word to potential customers.

Update November 2025 Still the cool dive bar it was 7 years ago. Food is good and service is great. Dont pass up this unique and funky spot. Urban Cowgill Update November 2025 We had some good times and good pizza here! Hey you guys! this tiny place has it all. Tons of charm and character, great service and decent pizza. Most importantly cold beer and good prices, cash only you must understand. With their own ATM Keith and his small team really do a good job keeping your glass full. With the biggest little place in BSL they also have plenty of outdoor seating and Friday night turtle races! thats right, turtle. We will def be going back! Urban Cowgill Aug 2018
