The Temperance House

I came in with a friend for a few drinks and apps. The bar was slow, and the bartender was attentive and greeted us promptly. Within 15 minutes, a large group came in and sat at tables and the bar. Jordan (the bartender) jumped right in and took care of everyone by herself, and it was a lot of people all at once. She handled it well, stayed focused, and still kept a happy, smiley face. As a restaurant manager, I was highly impressed. Kudos to Jordan!

We stayed two nights for our anniversary the room was dingy and could have been much nicer with fresh paint etc.the pics deceiving. They gave us no bottles of water and there is no water cooler to fill your own bottles. The tissue box was empty, little things that needed attention, we would have thought Newtown's standards were a bit higher. |On our first night awakened by a screaming alarm that went off for minutes we had no idea what it was and went back to sleep after a bit, it then went off very loudly about every hour for the rest of the night. We checked the hall and it was louder even and no one in sight. Exhausted and groggy by am it was nonstop and still no one around. Food was soooo good! We made a reservation and was surprised to see the dining room was closed when we arrived so weren’t sure what to expect, but we had a really great experience. Had a nice table in the room next to the bar, all of the food was so delicious and had great service. A little on the pricier side but I think worth it. Location is great and we stopped across the street for ice cream afterwards. Street parking but we got lucky with a spot right in front!

Jordan was alone on a lazy Sunday, but boy… can things change on a dime. Before you knew it, Temperance House was full to the gills. As guests began collecting inside, Jordan LOCKED in. All by herself, Jordan handled food and drink orders, checked on food at the window to ensure correctness, and ran food to where it belonged—all while maintaining rapport and professionalism with those watching her provide top notch service with one hand tied behind her back. 10/10 would come back just to watch Jordan serve others, let alone to be served by her.

It was nice and it was clean and quiet despite the music playing / bumpin jn the tavern till like 2am.. it’s like 254 years old! Cool vibes - we stayed in the “Haunted Porter” room - nothing creepy, but phones were a bit glitchy in there for some reason
