The Southern General

What a fantastic restaurant! My wife and I are at Kiawah for the weekend for a conference, and most of the Kiawah restaurants are outside of our dining (or financial) comfort zone. My wife read reviews for The Southern General and 20 minutes later we were here. Absolutely wonderful. We started with poutine, which I'd heard of but never experienced. French fries, gravy, and mozzarella curds - magic. My pork schnitzel was the best I'd ever had, and I lived in the Midwest for years. My wife's pimento cheeseburger was excellent, and the experience was topped off with a creme brulee doughnut. And, all of that was $60 after tax. Just wow. Everything was amazing, and the service was fantastic as well. My conference is at Kiawah again next year, and I know where I'll be to enjoy a dinner

Yallz! I can't remeber the last time I walked out of a restaurant as happy as today! This is an amazing place. When I walked in, there was a picture of Bill Murray on the wall! Small place and cool as hell. The onion dip appetizer and the poutine appetizer where worth it alone. The Cubano was one of the best I've had. Tried my son's salmon and almost took it from him. The pulled pork on my Cubano and on the plate my wife had was incredible. All around outstanding experience. Service was amazing and she took the time to explain things and offer suggestions. In for vacation and I'm betting I will visit again before I leave to get some more. Thank yall for the experience and you rock!

The Southern General is a nice local eatery. The staff is friendly and engaging. The go out of their way to make sure you're treated well. The cheese curds are a nice treat but not the same as those from Wisconsin. The have a nice marinara sauce with it. The French Dip is excellent. Well worth it. The JI3 is ok. The pimento cheese is the best part of the sandwich. The Cu-Bahn Mi is very flavorful. The fries are fresh and crispy.

Our food was amazing. The service was just as good. We stopped after seeing the Angel Oak before heading home. So glad the tree lead us to the Southern General. The burger was absolutely amazing as was the pulled pork sandwich. We will stop again when back in the area. We had the Super Butt (pork sandwich) Lowcounty Long burger and Mac n Cheese.

If anyone is looking for a FANTASTIC caterer: I recently had Chef John Simon (owner of The Southern General and the Secret Recipe Chef) cater my wedding, and now husband and I couldn't have been happier with their service. From the start, they were incredibly helpful in planning the menu, drinks and coordinating all the rentals we needed, like tables, linens, and glassware, etc. The food was pretty much the highlight of the reception—our guests could not stop raving about the quality and presentation. I wish I had more pictures of it all, but I only have the charcuterie board that they put together during cocktail hour. However, everything including the bar service was all top-notch; the bartenders were professional and kept the drinks flowing throughout the evening. They even surprised
