Venerable old-time place where you can “feel” the 1930’s. Looking for Corporal Klinger? He’s there (in cardboard form). In fact, you can see many pictures of former MASH characters throughout. Lots of Tiffany style lights suspended throughout the restaurant. Friendly, gregarious staff. Good food - Hungarian hotdogs, Delicious! Very good chili…. Lots to look at there. I’d go, if I were you.
Maybe my taste buds are used to a Michigan coney dog but I will say the dog and chilli sauce were pretty good. I didn't know they slice the dog in half so you dont get a full dog. Which for me id rather have the full dog. But flavor wise it was good. Can taste the spices in the meat. Grilling it gives it a great snap. The chili wasn't crazy about. Not bad. I just like Michigan coney dogs a bit more. Sorry Ohio lol. Chicken and dumplings soup was delicious. Service was fantastic. The decor on the walls tracing the history of tony packos was really cool. Overall its definitely something to check out going to Ohio.
Yeah, I'm giving a hot dog joint five stars. Why? Mainly because of the unique experience, yummy food and great service. Had their standard dog. Came with chili, onions and mustard. Nothing like my standard order but really worked. The chili had a big flavor, the hotdog was a bit garlicky and had a nice snap to the casing while the rest of it rounded out the dish. Perogies showed up a few minutes later. I went with their standard flavor and really enjoyed how the potato stuffing paired with the paprika-infused sour cream. Tasty! Glad I gave them a shot!
I always wanted to stop by and try Tony Packos. What a great place. Love the history. Menu is not very big and that is OK. Absolutely recommend the hot dogs! Perfection. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable. Well worth the time to stop by and grab some great food.
First time visit, Sat at the bar and the friendly bartender recommended a hotdog and paprikash dish, cabbage roll, & Side of German potatoes soaked in some liquid. Our lunch came out very quick. Good pickles and spicy peppers. Lots of Parking across the street. Overall good experience, I can see why it’s so popular as an affordable quick hot and hearty meal.
