The Merrick Library

My grandkids (6&3) love to come here. Always so much to do for them. Friendly helpful staff.

For such a large spacious children's room it is LACKING. If you come between the hours of 10a-1pm the children's room is filled with nanny's on their phones not paying attention to the kids they're "watching". It's free childcare for them. There is such a lack of toys to play with. Plus the kids of these nanny's have the toys thrown all over the room. Now I get the library can not control that, so I understand why there's a lack of toys here. It's sad. There's about 2 puzzles. No toys at all to stimulate your kids. The fish tank is nice that's about it. They don't have coloring sheets out. I visit many libraries on Long Island with my kids. The children's room staff also leaves much to be desired. Very disappointed with this bookstore, which is supposedly public. I live in North Merrick and wanted to take my son to this bookstore. A woman who was in the information area told the other woman, "Tell her she can't come in because she doesn't live here in Merrick." I feel discriminated against!

Friendly staff. Children’s room upstairs and teens room completely separated. Toys for little ones and more kept with librarians. Many great classes run here

Let’s start by saying that ( in my opinion ) I feel this library was an investment for Merrick that was not needed. The old library that was there was fine. This building is just to large. There’s very few books compared to others, very few dvd movies, and I don’t think they have magazines unless their hiding them, I could be wrong. On the up side the staff there are wonderful people, always courteous and willing to help. It’s not that I dislike this library it’s just the shortage of almost everything and the amount of people using it doesn’t warrant the size of this building.
