The Legendary Silver Dollar Saloon

We stopped in on a whim, which is honestly the best way to find a place like this. We'd been driving through Leadville and something about the exterior just made us slow down. Walked in and immediately felt like we'd taken a wrong turn into 1879, which sounds like a cliche but I don't know how else to describe it. The original bar, the floors, the stuff on the walls. You kind of just stand there for a second. We ended up staying for food, which we hadn't planned on. Got the Reuben and the pulled pork sandwich, plus an order of the wings. The Reuben is apparently a thing here and now I understand why. They brine and roast the brisket in house, slow roast it for a long time, make their own dressing. You can taste the difference. The food was amazing! We got the wings, onion rings and some drinks. Everything was so uniquely flavorful and learning the history about the building was really interesting. It was cool to sit in a building Doc Holiday and Molly Brown were in.

We came on an extremely busy weekend… Skijoring weekend! People overload! Considering that I think we got a table relatively quickly, after only waiting 30ish minutes. My friend and I both got the Tandoori Chicken sandwich and an order of onion rings. The tandoori chicken sandwich was good… felt like it needed some acid, maybe lime juice? The bun on the sandwich was the best part! Like melt in your mouth bread. The onion rings were fantastic!! The only reason I knocked a star off of service was because when we ordered drinks my friend got a beer and I asked for a glass of water. Her beer came and no water. Visited in February. Uniquely historic restaurant/bar that was an old saloon where Doc Holiday played the piano they still own! The bathroom even maintains the old saloon layout. Lots of old historic pictures and memorabilia to explore. Ask the staff for the book explaining the history, it was so much fun to read about the building and surrounding Leadville history! The food we had was tasty! I had chicken and waffles and my husband got the wings, ceasar salad and i think the chili. The wait staff was phenomenal as well, happy to answer questions about the history! We cant wait to come back!
