This 5-acre 19th century property is just full of history. It once belonged to former Ohio Governor and 19th U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes. Rutherford sold the land to the prominent local attorney Leon Henderson. It was the first African-American owned bed and breakfast in Ohio and it's first guests were the cast of the hit opera "The Phantom of the Opera" when it opened its doors in 1994. It is nestled on a wooded lot near downtown. The house was sold in 1942 to prominent local attorney Leon Henderson. The Henderson family went on to establish their home as an important social hub in the era of segregation, offering a safe and welcoming space for traveling entertainers. A zoning request has been submitted to the city of Columbus for the project, which will be heard by the Near East
