The Gumbo Shop Chico

Once I found them(inside Golden Beaver Distillery), I was pleasantly surprised by this small, yet efficient operation. We got our food to go, including red beans and rice for my better half, jambalaya for me, gumbo and cornbread to share. It was 3:30 on a Saturday, they weren't roo busy, and our fiod was up very quickly. The portions seemed small at first, but I could barely finish. The jambalaya was perfectly seasoned, slightly spicy, but not hot, the red beans were smokey and firm, yet creamy and delicious. The gumbo was excellent. Perfect ratio of soup to meats and veggies (the chicken was AMAZING). Cornbread was great, served with honey-butter AND honey. We also got a couple of their homemade pralines, which I cannot say enough good things about. Perfect ratio of candy to pecans, ever

Hankering for some Louisiana comfort food? This is the place to go! The gumbo, red beans & rice, and corn bread were phenomenal. Definitely will be coming back for more bowls of deliciousness. Simply sublime. Can dine in or carry out. But, I'd recommend dining in at The Gumbo Shop/Golden Beaver. Enjoy a craft cocktail, the cool vibes, and stellar service. Tunes were awesome, too. This place is a 🥇.

We went to the Beaver distillery just to have a cocktail, but not only did we have a great drink, but we had an amazing Gumbo dinner! Absolutely delicious, perfectly seasoned, generous portions and the chef came to our table and explained the history of his Cajun specialties! Oh, and did I mention the his pralines for dessert? Gotta have!!

They make delicious gumbo. The kindness and generosity of this kitchen is unmeasurable. Thank you for taking part in feeding so many with the Black Resiliency Project. The gumbo you provided helped feed 350 people for the day.

Seriously, this place is amazing! This is upscale and authentic! The food is as remarkable as the people who make it. A real bonus for Chico. Go get some gumbo. Like now! Don’t forget the cornbread!
