Look, I LOVE me some fish & chips and Shepard’s pie and after seeing all the good reviews and people gong on about how good and big the cod was, we thought we’d give it a try. I don’t know where some of these people who say that this is the biggest cod they’ve ever seen & the most delicious have been. They probably haven’t gone to Fort Kenny Pub in Rond Rock. It doesn’t even compare. Don’t let me start on the Sheppard pie. Ok, I’ll start. I was excited to see that they used lamb. I was thinking authentic. The portion for the price was Small! The potatoes on the top was not even toasted. The inside tasted like wolf brand chili topped woth mashed potatoes. It was not good at all. My husband also got the creamy cabbage. I guess I was thinking southern cabbage but when we got it, it looked lik
After seeing the buzz around the redesign, we’d been eager to finally visit Grumpy George’s, and boy, did it not disappoint! This renovation has successfully transported the dining experience, creating an atmosphere that is wonderfully reminiscent of a cozy, authentic British pub. The overall setting is warm and inviting—a perfect spot for a relaxed meal. But the real stars of the visit were the plates coming out of the kitchen. The undisputed champion was the Fish and Chips. They were, simply put, PHENOMENAL. The generous portion of cod was encased in a golden, perfectly crisp batter that was light and airy, while the fish inside remained moist and flaky. This is a must-try dish for anyone visiting. We also sampled the house burger, which was a very strong contender. Juicy, flavorful, and
Grumpy George's was a treat for sure! Seating was readily available both at the bar and for tables, our party of 3 tried the Fish N Chips (because you have to give a new pub's fish n chips a taste), their Grumpy George's smash burger, their scotch egg and sticky toffee pudding. The service was great, definitely commendable. Their smash burger was good, was a double patty and well portioned, their fries/chips were well cooked, cut, and seasoned (seasoning especially! This goes for the fish n chips too) and the burger had a good portion of caramelized onions and an... Interesting sauce. It was not bad but we couldn't figure out what exactly the sauce was supposed to be. Still good! The fish and chips were commendable. There's definitely better out there, but not much. The tartar sauce was
We came here 2 1/2 years ago when this pub opened at the Georgetown square. It has a great location but unfortunately that’s the only thing going for it. We came back after Gordon Ramsey included it in his kitchen nightmares show. Although the ambiance was a little better, the food had not improved. We had the Scotch Eggs which were burnt and the Welsh Rarebit, which looked like a grilled cheese was absolutely unappetizing. We noticed that several other patrons were enjoying their Fish and Chips. We were pleasantly surprised when the bill came; the waitress had taken off the food and just charged us with drinks. When we pointed this out to the waitress, she said “of course.” We applaud that kind of service. We hope the restaurant will improve their food offerings.😀
Cute pub. The pastrami cured smoked salmon was insanely Good, I have to say. The scotch eggs were OK; could use a little more Piccoli in my opinion, but still pretty good. We also had their Welsh cheese toast, which was excellent. All in all, I was fairly impressed. And seriously get the salmon.
