The Farm House Cafe & Bakery

We came here in the morning with our son, and from the very first moment we could feel the warm atmosphere and the kindness of the staff. The place is beautifully designed with a true “Southern hospitality” vibe, just like in the movies. We are new to the United States, and this was exactly the kind of experience we were hoping for. The food was excellent - generous, comforting portions, and our son absolutely fell in love with their cake. During our visit, we had the pleasure of speaking with Carson, one of the owners of this family-run place. He was incredibly kind, made sure everything was to our liking, and when we told him we’re new to the U.S., he wished us an easy and pleasant adjustment. Lot's of folks come to North Carolina to experience REAL down home North Carolina Country Cooking, but end up stopping at the chain restaurants along the interstates and highways that they can find in any other state, experiencing the same bland food always found along the highways. Real country Carolina cooking should take you back to the days of church potluck suppers after harvest, holiday dinner at grandma and grandpas, an old fashioned farmhouse dinner on a hot summer's night after a satisfying day at work. You don't find such food on the interstates..... sometimes you have to get off the path, drive a couple of miles and visit one of the many great tiny towns that dot the North Carolina map. I don’t usually give a lot of reviews, unless it took me by surprise. This one took me by surprise and not in a great way. My wife had been asking me to go for the longest time and we went this morning. She had ordered the chicken and waffles, while I ordered the circle city breakfast. Unfortunately this has got to be the most bland food I have ever eaten, and given the choice, I would have much rather gone to the local Waffle House instead. First my fried hash browns were not fried, more like cooked mush and unseasoned. Next my French toast did not come with any powdered sugar. Lastly my sausage just tasted like a meat puck from the mess hall with no flavor whatsoever. My wife’s turned out great, saying she did not need to add any salt to anything, additional she ordered the grits whic
