I love ed The Cookie Jar! the flavors were complex and simple at the same time. the cookies were soft but chewy and had the right bite to them. I cant say enough that the sugar cookies had better be in heaven when I get there. truly, this place is one of those special bakeries where you can taste the love.
Selection is not great, cookies are really small for the price. The peanut butter cookie had a really weird flavour and did not taste like peanut butter. The M&M cookie was very much a sugar cookie with M&Ms pushed into it. The ginger snap was the only saving grace. The flavour was good. The first two were very over baked and crunchy. The ginger snap was not crunchy but was a gooey like texture. The girl that served me was too distracted by her friends. Her friends just hung out while I ordered and were more or less in the way, as the whole place is very small. Would not return.
I’m from Newport and been going to the Cookie Jar for a bag of cookies for decades now so after a long absence of returning home I had to bring my wife and kids to the Cookie Jar because well it’s a Newport thing!! It didn’t disappoint and the oatmeal butterscotch are still my favorite but all are good and taste the same as they always have, I just can’t eat a whole bag like I used to. I was glad it was still there!! I didn’t take any pics of the cookies we ate them too fast!!
Just don’t get cookies here lol, cute location, staff was very friendly, but you’re there for the cookies and they tasted like chips ahoy basically. They have a great location purely for so I’m sure they do well because I’m sure it’s mostly likely tourists that go there but I’ll definitely remember not to go there again lol I didn’t even think to look at the reviews. And I got 6 cookies for $14.
This place is a quintessential New England harbor town spot. If you get there early enough, before say 10am, you'll find the owner making the cinnamon buns and talking with friends, locals, and fellow merchants who stop in for a morning chat and cup of coffee. It was very cool talking with him and other locals just hanging around. He is very freindly. The cinnamon rolls and breakfast sandwiches were delicious and well priced, especially for the area. There is a nice seating area outside if the weather is nice.
