The Captain's Den

Nice little cafe, bakery, coffee shop located right next to CNU college in Newport News. food and drinks are tasty and service was excellent. Open at 7:30 recommended you come by and grab a bite if you’re around they also have beer, lunch and dinner! Btw the breakfast quesadilla is pretty big you could share it with someone if you’re not too hungry.

What happened to your eggs?!!! They used to be so good now they are dry and rubbery and even the yummy hash brown casserole was dry today! Even the grapes were mushy!! We order from here often from our office and the food seems to be going downhill. One coworker didn’t even get her food today. Not sure where the quality check got lost but this will probably be my last time eating here for a bit unless things improve which I hope they do because I love supporting small businesses but the last few times were not good sadly!

The food is great! The coffee seems way more authentic than Starbucks, fries are perfect, and menu items are priced appropriately for the size and quality. The staff was very friendly. They have couches and different sizes and height tables. They have games and books avaliable while you're there. Food came out very quickly too!

Great little spot near CNU. Food is great, coffee is great, service is excellent. Looking forward to grabbing lunch there sometime.

There are two things that a cafe needs to stand out: A design aesthetic that captures its personality of what it wants to convey and fast service for food & drinks. The Captain’s Den meets both perfectly. I got the Waffle Breakfast Sandwich, one of the many unique sandwich choices they offer on their breakfast menu. It was a great amount of food for $10+ dollars around here — at least based on my experience. I recommend the cafe and the waffle sandwich. If you are craving something more like a lunch or dinner meal, there is another menu that offers a bunch of choices that fit those needs. This is a great place to stop by and grab a coffee and snack. There are a good amount of tables, couches and board games for you and a few friends to play.
