Tavern 1888

This is an amazing addition to Inn at 2nd & C and Phatsy Kline's Parlor Lounge. You get a better menu comparing to other places, you can call it fancy, like Lamb Osso Buco or Poke or Bison Short Ribs, but it so worth it, especially if you are tired seeing only pizza places around while on vacation. We tried 3 items from the menu (True Grits with Bkackened Rockfish & Shrimps, Lamb Osso Buco, Braised Bison Short Rib) - all of them were great and tasty. The selection of craft coctails is great, not a typical "vodka-soda" bar! The On Tap selection of drinks is not that great, just 4 beers and 1 cider on draft, but well they are not about beers. And the atmosphere is 🔥, so definitely recommend!

This was a great find. We first went to Phatsy Klines (next door, will review them as well) and went to their sister location next door to have a couple drinks. The bartender at Phatsys recommended the crab cakes and said the crab was very fresh. I personally do not care for crabcakes because they are always heavily breaded and have too much mayonnaise and that's all you can taste. I have only liked them once in Victoria BC (Nautical Nellie's). These were amazing! Super fresh considering the crab was alive less than a half hour before. I had dinner reservations else were but the next time I come back to Eureka, I will definitely return for dinner and wouldn't mind staying at the hotel either (very vintage).

The tavern 1888 offers such a delightful food experience and puts the cherry on top of everything the historical Eagle House has become over the last several years. The staff went above and beyond any dining experience I’ve had here in humboldt county. We were greeted several times throughout our meal for a satisfaction check by the host, general manager and even the head chef, John. Because of the amazing things we had heard from friends that came the night before, we started with 3 appetizers. The beet tower had a more fruity refreshing twist than a usual beet salad, the duck confit gave us an opportunity to sort of sample the duck entree although there is a slight difference in additional ingredients and the braised ribs were friggin ridiculously remarkable. what. a great gastro pub. food was stellar. Great oysters tuna and clams. Great tastes and good portions and not overly expensive. Staff exceptional. Recommend the tuna poke bowl.

Poke bowl and duck confit were both delicious. The lion’s mane mushroom cakes tasted strongly of rancid oil that overpowered the whole dish. They gave us $10 discount but it was a $30 dish and I felt like it should have been comped. We also ordered 4 cocktails, we loved the rose shaped ice cubes. Service was just okay.
