Tacos Don Chai

⭐ Honest Review I ordered an asada torta for lunch today because I was starving, but when I opened the box and took off the bun, I couldn’t believe how little meat there was — maybe a couple ounces at most. It was basically all bread with barely any carne asada. The taste matched the look — mostly bread, no real asada flavor, and to top it off, no avocado? Come on guys, you’ve got to do better. This is my second time trying their food, and both times they’ve been way too stingy with the meat. I’ll give them one more shot, but hopefully they see this and take note — the photos speak for themselves.

My wife tried this spot first and raved about some of the best chilaquiles around here. So we went together for breakfast. It's a small space and limited menu but you can tell they focus on perfecting their craft to make each item taste amazing over having an extensive menu full of hit or miss options. My wife and I each had chilaquiles, hers green sauce, mine red. We also ordered a Brisket Quesabirria, torta, and quesadilla to take home for later. For everything we got the price wasn't too bad at all. They have a wide variety of hot sauces to enjoy, the pineapple one is my favorite. I also ordered one of their seasonal agua frescas, which ended up being Guyabano, a flavor which I had never tried before, and was so pleasantly surprised by that we ordered another one to go before we left.

The service was excellent. The gentleman at the front was polite and friendly, and he helpfully answered my questions about the menu. Our food also came out quickly. (We visited on a Saturday in the early afternoon and it wasn’t crowded. There was no line to order.) Unfortunately the food wasn’t as impressive. I ordered the chilaquiles verde which was very soggy. The cheese was unevenly distributed with most of it concentrated on a few chips. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and delicious though, and the onions tasted fresh and added a nice crunch. Despite being underwhelmed by the food, I found the pricing to be fair for the quantity of food presented. ($8 for the chilaquiles) My partner ordered chicken tacos which he enjoyed. I’ve been trying to get back to this spot as I’m not from the area. First time I had a Birria Torta (10/10), today a steak super burrito (10/10). The sauces are gourmet. Definitely coming back next time I’m driving through. Thank you Don Chai!!
