Taco Mel

Tacos! Overall not much to say, the tacos are small but you can order several from different kinda and add your own toppings for free. The restaurant was overall okay for a quick stop but nothing too fancy.

The food was pretty good. I had a beef fajita taco and a grilled chicken taco. I had bell peppers and onions on both of them. It wasn't until I was already eating them that I realized that the rest of the toppings were on a separate bar. I saw a bunch of people getting to-go boxes and filling them up with the toppings and assumed that it was a salad bar. That's on me for not asking but the staff didn't offer to let me know, either. I'll go back and give them another try. I'm sure that it will be more flavorful with added toppings.

Taco Mel is by far our favorite place to get actual Mexican food in Lake Charles. It’s a no-nonsense taco joint with better prices than Taco Bell. You walk in, tell them you want sautéed onions and veggies on your taco, then make it yourself. If it doesn’t taste good, it’s probably your own fault. We love love the barbacoa tacos and quesadilla, but it’s hard to go wrong here. It’s honestly probably the best thing Chuck has since we don’t have a Chipotle or Izzo’s but we’ll still be coming back here even when those pop up (probably never though).

Would’ve been a three star meal if it weren’t for the stick in my kids food.

Ordered and payed for guacamole, was given a green avocado salsa. Food was disappointing.
