Beautiful environment, good service (they gave the kid a wrong gelato but immediately replaced it), cafe and macaron also good. Everything is vegetarian but it doesn’t compromise the taste at all. Highly recommended for visitors for the Manhattan project historical park.
Sugar & Cream Café's flaky golden buttery crossaint stuffed with ham, cheddar, and roasted New Mexico green chili is delightfully delicious and I can't believe it's only $4 (Dec 2025)! It's a meal, not a snack! Pairs perfectly with one of their outstanding crafted coffees (Side note to my budget-conscious cohorts: S&C's offerings are better, AND pricing is significantly less expensive [$$] than W&M's [$$$$] around the corner, and all our local Starbuckses'[$$$]). I'd assumed the perfectly balanced chocolate croissant would be my forever favorite but it's got competition... CROISSANT COMPETITION (!). Sometimes you want sweet, sometimes savory - and it's all fresh and ready for you at Sugar & Cream. Please try (and then frequent) them, we want S&C to thrive and stay here in Los Alamos!
We make it a point to stop in every time we visit Los Alamos, whether for pastry snacks, sandwiches or simply their delicious handcrafted coffee and tea beverages. Seating can be at a premium on weekends when the nearby restaurants are closed and it's too chilly to sit on the patio. But, we've never had to wait for a table, even at those busy times. They can make most any specialty beverage you desire, even if it's not on the regular menu or one of their seasonal specials. The tarts are my personal favorites.
I’m assuming they prepare the pastries in the morning and not throughout the day. When we got our pastries around 4pm, they were stale. The blackberry green tea lemonade was great. The workers were pretty careless. I’m assuming they were high schoolers. They were very loud amongst themselves, kept playing around with the music, played an explicit song (Drake Nokia), and despite us sitting there for an hour, no one came to take our empty plates from the table.
This place is pretty good although not many options for pastries in Los Alamos. I have not tried everything on the menu but the almond croissants and muffins are tasty. The large latte comes with 3 espresso shots, which is nice since usually a large is the same amount of espresso as medium and just more milk. They sell day-old pastries for 1/2 price and day-old muffins for $1 off. 3% added for CC transactions so cash is king here.
