Strange Roots Experimental Ales is one of those rare spots that nails both vibe and quality. It’s a small bar with a cozy atmosphere right in the heart of New Kensington, and in the evenings it almost takes on a mini Lawrenceville energy—lively without losing that laid-back, neighborhood feel. I’ve been here many times, and it’s consistently a great hang. As the name suggests, they lean into experimental beers, but these aren’t “let’s toss random fruit in a keg and hope” creations—they’re thoughtfully made and genuinely well-executed. I’m not usually a sour beer person, and even I’ve found their sours surprisingly drinkable and enjoyable. That said, the real reason this place earns five stars from me is their traditional lineup. Their Zomp IPA, traditional stouts, imperial stouts, and Be
We love the entire vibe at Strange Roots which also houses the Amazing Common Oven Pizza!! The Staff are always super friendly and willing to give the 411 on anything they have on tap. Live music and a large beer garden area to sit outside and hang with friends and enjoy the delish beer and food!!! This place is one to put on your places to visit list. Loving this place for New Ken!!!
Our server was amazing. It was not too busy when we were here. She throughly went through a loss after we told her our likes and her recommendations were dead on. The red cider I felt was the best as it had a sweeter taste to it. The Mead was good. However, it was lacking the honey flavor. And of course, for dinner, I had to be a kid and enjoy a soda pop which paired well with the white pie pizza. We will definitely be back and try more ales here.
What a great place! Nice selection of pizza and beers. Plus the atmosphere is really nice and inviting. There is a separate couch hang out area near the front if you aren't eating. The wait staff was super nice and friendly too. I'm definitely going back! I got the ricotta and arugula pizza and a Belgium beer
The beer is good, check the sour before you order. I loved it. & The oven baked pizza in the building next door is fantastic. Common pizza co. Order this separate.
