Stony Brook University

The high reviews for this school is why I attended the university for a few semesters, but after circling back to those same reviews I am convinced they live in an alternate universe where the school is actually wonderful! Spoiler alert! It's not! Food is awful, professors don't care for the most part and actually nobody cares about you besides your depressed friends trying to survive along with you. 3hrs+ to drive here from Queens just to realize there's no parking as the alternative is commuting by train, which takes 2hrs+ from Jamaica and Long Island as the useless diesel trains are probably still in use and keep breaking down/ have delays. If you want to actually learn and be happy, go elsewhere!

It's just a research school. The engineering and math departments lack quality professors. As most professors don't answer questions and TAs are reluctant to help you. Only go here if you are accepted into a PHD program or you can afford grad school.

Wonderful graduation services. This was pre Covid-19. The schedule was very well planned and executed. For the amount of students receiving degrees, it was an amazing use of time. It didn't feel rushed, but it moved at a good pace. Everything was clean, the indoor areas were well lighted.

As someone that chose to attend this university instead of locally in NYC to experience a university campus, can confidently say it was the worst mistake of my life in terms of academic and career support. You are better elsewhere unless you really want to work in Long Island
