Steel Penny Cafe

This place is a hidden gem. I had never heard of it until a friend mentioned it to me and told me it was a cool spot with great pizza. My buddy wasn’t wrong. My Caesar salad was a very generous portion size and super fresh. I went with a Detroit style pizza that was amazing. I saw other tables with the hand-tossed pizza that also look incredible. They also have an impressive draft list and list of beers in cans. There is a wine and cocktail menu that looked very nice but I’m a beer guy and didn’t try any. I was able to try two beers I had never had before. This is no small task as I have drank a lot of beer in my time. The staff were friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu items. This place is a must try if you like cool spots with good pizza and beer.

So glad we found Steel Penny! Looking for a good place to eat and coffee and they checked both! Service is fantastic. Tried the Detroit style pizza this was so delicious. Nice crunchy crust but soft in the middle.

First off, it’s important to note that Steel Penny does not allow customization of menu items. They’re very rigid about substitutions or adjustments, which feels a bit off-putting and inflexible, especially for those who like to tweak their orders. That said, the Firenze sandwich was phenomenal. It comes with Burrata Cheese, Basil Pesto (nut-free), Arugula, Tomato, Balsamic Glaze, Sicilian EVOO, Salt, and Black Pepper, and you can choose between a chicken cutlet or Prosciutto di Parma. I went with the chicken cutlet, and it was an excellent choice. The rustic Italian bread roll was the perfect base, crusty yet soft enough to hold everything together. My book club tried out this local place for this month's meeting, it was not crowded when we arrived around 10am and we didn't feel rushed, eating and chatting until noon. Tried out the egg, bacon, cheese on a foccacia, I was a little hesitant at first, but it was delicious! The hot chocolate was really good as well, don't skip the whipped cream on top. The only critique I had was I wish the music had been a little quieter so we could hear each other better, but I do think someone turned it down about an hour after we arrived as more people arrived. I liked the atmosphere, and the layout made us feel like we had a private room instead of being in the bigger room of tables. I think we found a new meeting spot! [Update] I came back to try out the coffee and toasts because everyone has been saying they’re so great… and they weren’t lying! Deliciousss!!! And customizable* which is key! What a Cute Place! We devoured the salad before I could even take a picture! But the pizza was sooooo good, it’s light and fluffy and so full of flavor! Seriously going back for more
