Steak 'n Shake

Me and my wife decided to try something new and have dinner here. I had trouble with the kiosk machine but I managed. The food was great, but it took a long time for our food to be called out to us. While waiting I mentioned that the lobby area had some filthy tables. I was not mad it seemed like they had little staff. But this young gentleman came and cleaned them immediately. While doing so I mentioned to him that our food was taking quite some time. He apologized and said he’d have it out shortly. Few minutes fly by and he approached my wife and handed her a bag of food. Apparently an online order cancelled and they didn’t want it to go to waste so he passed it on to us. The staff was very welcoming. After we arrived, we learned that you cannot order from the table. You have to get up and use the kiosk, whether dine in or take out. There are no more plates and glass and silverware. It's all plastic single use and the atmosphere is gone. I never go to steak 'n shake BUT I did today to show my 4-year-old and experience she hasn't had before. And the kiosk even asked if we wanted to tip. I wasn't sure who I was tipping the computer or the programmer. Definitely not a human. The worst part of my 0experience was the soda machine. You have to scan your receipt in order for the soda machine too even work. So I scan my drink, and got drinks for my family and after we cleaned up our own table I discarded my receipt before I got my refill so I asked an employee if they could turn it on so I can

Good food, great milkshakes, clean restrooms. Staff wasn't overly friendly but they were mostly preparing meals and working . You have to place your own order on a kiosk so customer service is limited anyways. One of the men let us take a milkshake glass home with us as a "souvineer" so that was a bonus. Will visit again if ever in the area.

Oh my goodness gracious!!! This place is so delightful and so welcoming!! My first visit I was a Dine-in and the dining room was actually fairly clean for it being in Jefferson County. Not a crack addict in sight. The tables could have been wiped down a little more, but other than that it was clean. Although my second visit I was a dine-in as well. They had messed up my burger. I had ordered it with no onions and to my surprise (silly me) it had onions. I went to the drink station and waved down an employee from the back. She was a bit on the shorter side and had glasses. She was very rude and passed me off to another employee. I didn’t quite catch the young man’s name but if I recall it was along the lines of chase or chance. I was told to wait in the drive through due to short staffing. I understand and was willing to wait. Waited an hour before attempting to communicate again. Absolutely no response. Diners inside we're still receiving service while over 10 cars left the drive through. Not sure why I waited so long before leaving, but I kinda wanted to see how long they would let it go for. Absolutely never going back there. How can you trust a store like this to cook food safely if they can't even staff enough to pay attention to the drive through? Very unsafe.
