State University of New York at New Paltz

I had to drop out after just one semester because of bigotry from a few faculty and staff members, and the school's refusal to take it seriously. It got worse over time. I couldn't even finish one of my classes because of it I was subjected to hate for my assigned gender, less fortunate financial status, both real and not real but assumed disabilities, for being transgender, for being older than most other students, and for being an abuse survivor It included things like being told I'm not welcome on campus, being told I have to hide signs of a physical disability because it made a faculty member uncomfortable, having my gender identity policed, being told I should only take "easy" classes and not challenge myself academically, being told I have to take exams in a different room than oth

I visited the New Paltz campus for the first time on Wednesday September 18, 2019. I enjoy visiting colleges and take pictures. What surprised me is how dated the campus looked. It reminded of the school I attended in the early seventies. Almost like going back into time. I did ask someone if there are any new buildings or on going construction and she said yes but I didn't see very much activity. I visited the campus art gallery it was wonderful. The campus has a couple of lakes but other than that, the SUNY New Paltz campus is as dull as dishwater.

My years at this university were nothing short of transformative. The quality of education exceeded my expectations, and the faculty’s dedication to their students was inspiring. The programs are well-structured, combining theoretical knowledge with real-world applications. Beyond academics, the community spirit and cultural diversity enriched my perspective in countless ways. I am proud to be an alumna of such an outstanding institution. The only drawback during my time here was ending up in the older dormitories without air conditioning - a challenge in the warmer months - but it certainly added to the memories and stories I cherish today.

Nice looking school, but that's about as much as it has going for it. Their dorm buildings are plagued with asbestos, not cleaned properly, and the school lacks sufficient space to house its students. Freshman must live on campus, but the school over accepts and finds themselves unable to fit them all, so they force three students into rooms meant for two people. There is constant ongoing construction, which would be great for solving the housing issue, but their progress is at a constant standstill, and half of the projects are unrelated to housing entirely. They are closing the only dining hall on campus next semester with no clear plan for students who rely on allergy free, reliable, and/or 'healthy' (it's debatable if what they serve already can be categorized as edible, let alone heal

Always a warm welcoming visit when I stop by the professors are all amazing and the views around the campus are incredible
