Customer Reviews
This is the best bakery in the region and beyond. Others have better PR and locations that draw media, but nobody is better. (Photos from their Fri and Sat morning walk-up window service) Extraordinarily delicious, with pastries that satisfy a sweet tooth while maintaining the rich complexity and nutritiousness of grains that are such a far cry from your basic AP flour. Their breads are stellar. Each time I cut into one I wonder at the tender custardy interior crumb and the wonderful caramelization they achieve. It’s always perfect. Put these folks on Warren st and they’d have their annual James beard nod. Not that they need it - it’s more an indication of the silliness of those awards than anything. We’re just full of gratitude to have these folks in the area. Such luck, such nurturi
Best bread (and baked goods) in the Hudson Valley! We organize our life schedule around availability of Sparrowbush breads and pastries - currently Saturdays at the Hudson Farmer's Market, and certain days in retail at Otto's and MX Morningstar - and we typically import it back to NYC which honestly has no bakeries as good as Sparrowbush. They have recently extended their range to beautiful dense croissants, delicate fruit galettes, salted chocolate chip walnut cookies, and on occasion cinnamon and cardamom buns. All from locally grown and ground grains baked in wood fired ovens. Could not be more perfect!
This is my all-time favorite bakery! I am especially fond of the sesame loaf, as well as the rye and spelt varieties. I appreciate the density of the rye and spelt loaves, in that I can cut them into very thin slices for sandwiches or breakfast so that one loaf lasts me a whole week.
I'm a huge fan of all the baked goods! So thankful I found you - a bakery that freshly mills organic grains into flour and then bakes wonderfully fresh and tasty baked good! It doesn't get any better than that! ✨🙏🏼✨
I have gotten different things from them over the summer at the Hudson Farmers market. The two people working there are not unfriendly, but my no means are they friendly. The main issue I have is with their products. They are so hit or miss. I have had some great sourdough bread, stuffed croissants, and cookies, but their rye sandwich bread is so incredibly dense that even after toasting it's like trying to chew through clay. Their sandwich rolls have the same issue. I used them for urgers and the bread was more thick and dense than the beef. The last thing I got from there was a bialy and it was beyond stale. My jaw hurt for hours after trying to eat it.
