One of the places that always popped up for me as the best of this style pizza. It's not your traditional round or traditional Sicilian. I've only really seen it in the Wyoming Valley area of Pennsylvania. Probably closest to Detroit style. We got the regular with onion, the General Tsos and the buffalo chicken wing and all were excellent. It's a fried dough crust which is a little crunchy but soft and the chunks of tomato and onion in the sauce just hit the spot! The General Tsos was sweeter and finished tangy. Buffalo (we chose mild) was as expected. All 3 were amazing. Its inside the bowling alley and atmosphere is as expected. Service was quick and noise levels were fine on the bar side.
Spare Time Pizza, located inside Back Mountain Bowl in Dallas, PA, consistently receives high praise for its food, particularly its Sicilian and chicken wing pizzas. Many consider it among the best in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The General Tso's pizza is awesome. Wait times can be very long, sometimes especially on Fridays and Holidays.
I ordered a Sicilian fried-style pizza from Spare Time the other night, similar to Victory Pig or Pizza Lovin’, but with its own unique sauce flavor and consistency. I called ahead and waited about 45 minutes, which I expected, and it was well worth it. The pizza was excellent, with a generous amount of cheese and a very reasonable price compared to others in the Valley. The staff was attentive when I arrived for pickup and made sure I had everything I needed. You can pay by card or cash, and there is sit-down available—when we stopped in on a Saturday around 7 p.m., there were tables open. Located inside the Dallas bowling alley, this spot turned out to be a great find. Highly recommended.
My friend recommended this place because it had really great ratings on a pizza review blog that he is on (yes, those are a thing!). I must say I was really surprised by this unique, Detroit style pizza. The sauce had sweet undertones, and the way they incorporated onions into their sauces was done really well! The buffalo chicken pizza was simultaneously sweet and spicy and the chicken was really tender unlike some other places that cook their chicken to a near jerky level texture. Only thing I will say is that it is a HEAVY meal. The pizza tasted like it was deep fried in oil. Hey, you only live once right? So to recap, if you want something light and healthy, don’t come here, but if it’s your cheat day and you are super hungry, this is your spot! Just make sure you don’t have any plans
We tried multiple pizzas yesterday. Classic with and without onions, bacon/chicken/ranch, general tso, and also buffalo bites. It was all delicious!
