Southland Books and Cafe

Just can't say enough good things about Southland! Where to start? The books -- huge selection and reasonably priced. The staff -- welcoming and thoughtful. The food -- delicious and lots of vegetarian options. The Dungeon (games and movies) -- good selection (with the only downside being a slight funk, but what can you expect from a basement space?) The opportunities they provide for community connection and organizing -- phenomenal. And did I mention the books?? Love, love, love this place and always enjoy making a day trip to Maryville to visit. If you value small businesses, independent bookstores, and thriving community spaces, make Southland the place for your next day out, meet-up, or oasis of peace in a sea of insane modern life.

Southland Books & Cafe is my favorite spot. Highly recommend if you’re in the Maryville! Warm, friendly atmosphere with delicious baked goods made with love (also vegan!) Support this local business. I’ve been dying to come here, and I’m so glad I finally made it. The staff is helpful and kind. Amazing coffee menu! They even had pumpkin spice in May! Huge book selection of both new and used books. I will be back!!

Wide selection of books to choose from! Wonderful service, friendly staff. I love this place, it’s one of my favorite cafes in town to visit. I love all the cute book themed drinks. And there’s such a big food selection! Including gluten free & vegan options!

First - there is a store dog "Velkyrie" who is the softest/sweetest/cutest so stop by and say hello! Creaky floors, eclectic decor. You could spend a few hours here quite easily. Large used bookstore with an informal layout. The "Dungeon" has VHS, DVDs, games, and collectibles. The Cafe has a dedicated Vegan menu and grab'n'go lunches. It seems like there is also a bar/brewery underneath the store. Will be back to investigate this.. Prices are competitive, falling between thriftbooks and amazon.
