Smolik's Smokehouse

We stopped here for fuel and grub, my first time here. The smell of smoked brisket, chicken and BBQ was so wonderful. We were greeted then made our order of BBQ, fast and delicious. I ordered the kids plate of chicken and fries...delicious. My parents ordered the 2 meat plate with sides. They really enjoyed it as well; this is not their first time here. Visited the restrooms just to check cleanliness, very nice and they have a baby changing station. All of the antiques are neat to look at, a walk back in time. There is a gift shop and display for honey raised here in Texas. We topped off our lunch with a brownie from the dessert display....wow! So good, enough to share with others. Great place to stop on the way to Corpus Christi or even South Padre Island. Thanks for the grub.

I'm assuming by the sheer amount of other more highly rated reviews I just visited on a bad day but I felt that though the brisket and ribs were moist the flavor was just not there, I felt that the bark on the brisket could have been better. The fried okra was good and their house made ranch is delicious. For some reason my root beer tasted like rubbing alcohol I don't know what was going on there also I felt like the waitresses weren't very attentive which doesn't really bother me just put to go trays and a fountain drink station where we can have access to it and I don't have to go ask for stuff. The inside of the restaurant is really charming though 🤷

Hadn’t visited Smoliks in a few months. Was excited driving to Mathis to eat here. Opening my meal I noticed BBQ was not fresh. For 12:30pm lunch time, I was surprised. Beans were watery and lacked flavor. Tasted like a poor man’s Chili bean recipe. Rice was decent. Brisket and sausage were inedible. Brisket was dried out and sausage had the texture of a beef jerky you buy at a convenience store. Hate to say it’s the last time we visit but it’s hard to imagine driving from sinton or corpus to eat here again.

Wonderful BBQ! The Brisket was awesome. Potato salad, beans, coleslaw, green beans, baked potato and salad were on point! The steak was cooked perfect but was mainly Gristle and couldn't be eaten. The cashier was professional. The waitress was kind, patient and did a wonderful job. Definitely will be back for brisket and all the trimmings. This is a great place to eat!

So glad we stopped here. Good prices good food. Lots of neat old stuff to look at.
