I wanted to order something different for dinner and I ended up having one of the best meals of my life, and certainly the best delivery order I've ever had without question. I could taste the love that was put into each dish. It was superb and I definitely be ordering again, hopefully next time in person!
I was in the New Haven area and decided to get some good eats. I came across a Black-owned restaurant. I ordered food for pickup 😋 and had to wait about 45 minutes. Walking up to the restaurant, Sandra was stepping out. There was a guy outside in a wheelchair. I'm sure she was very familiar with him because he told her he was hungry. She smiled and said, 'I just fed you.' He repeated, 'I'm still hungry.' We all laughed, and she asked him what he wanted. He wanted chicken. She laughed and went to give that homeless man some chicken. She stole my heart ❤️ with that alone. I ordered shrimp and grits (10/10), oxtail empanada (7/10), potato salad (7/10), deviled eggs (8/10) with shrimp, and a church plate consisting of salmon, Caribbean rice, and mac and cheese (8/10). Check this spot out. W
The atmosphere is not much because it's a take out place. The service seems reasonable for the number of orders they were filling. But it's the food that I want to talk about. I ordered fried chicken, greens, green beans and mac and cheese. The high points were the sides. The green beans were delicious and perfectly cooked. I could have made that the whole meal. The greens and the mac and cheese were good but not outstanding. The cornbread was also good. However, the fried chicken was a disappointment. It had great texture and great crunch but the taste was bland. I though the chicken was less than expected, I am going to return to check out some of the other choices and another order of green beans.
My family and I were in New Haven for an appointment. Before driving home, my wife told me she was hungry. I told her. I want Sandra’s. My wife agreed. 5 mins later we placed our order at Sandra’s. Two plates with fried chicken, collards and Mac and cheese. 4 different slices of cake. We destroyed one platter before we even touched the highway. My wife said we had to stop so we could have a plate for dinner. The desserts were so good! The cakes were sweet and moist. OMG! Could make a diabetic go into shock lol. Will definitely be back soon!
Food was unbelievably delicious! Tastes like Sundays Southern Soul-food from my family!
