Sakana & Yasai

Two words: GOLDEN CRUNCH! This is one of their specialty rolls that is absolutely something I could eat once or twice a week! Overall, the food is beautifully presented and in generous portions, and the wait staff is extremely kind and attentive. We have been fans of the original location in Kensington, and we are glad that they are able to expand and serve the greater community.

Run (don’t walk) to Sakana & Yasai! We have been loyal customers to the Kensington location for a while and finally made it down to Solano to try the new, Sakana & Yasai. And WOW—are we impressed! Like its sister location in Kensington, the sushi is incredible. The sashimi was delicate & flavorful, and the loaded rolls were home-runs. But, what really blew our minds were the new menu items courtesy of this new location’s kitchen. The katsudon and karaage reminded me of my Obachan’s cooking. Everything was cooked perfectly and rivaled dishes my husband has had in Japan. Most importantly, the people at Sakana & Yasai (and the Kensington location) are the absolute best. Kind, warm, and amazing with their service. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This is my new favorite local Japanese restaurant. They took over the space of a previous old time Japanese restaurant and really updated the ambiance and menu. My dining partner described the sound track playing as “Futuristic off-planet lounge music” (really just jazzified popular tunes) but along with the tasteful remodel, the place has a cozy cool vibe. The food is something special. Very high quality, healthy and uniquely presented.

I first came here on a whim about a week ago and liked it so much I returned. I like that their sushi rice is purple. Its a nice unique touch. The portions are great and the flavor and quality is amazing as well. I like the cozy atmosphere and the waiters are very friendly and welcoming. Make sure you check the chalk board for specials.

Wow! Our new favorite Sushi restaurant. Every dish, every roll, every side was perfectly prepared. We ordered a lot of items that commonly appear on Sushi menus but they simply were better here with little twists, perfectly done and seasoned to perfection. Best Sunomono ever! Tempura was lightly battered and not greasy with the flavor of the food front and center. Each roll was memorable in its own way. We look forward to coming back over and over again! And lest I forget, their purple rice adds both to the flavor, texture and visual of every dish with rice in it - and that was most of the dishes since this is, after all, a Sushi restaurant! And the prices are fair for the quality of the food and loved the intimacy of this small but wonderful spot.
