Ruta Ukrainian Restaurant

We had a lovely anniversary dinner at Ruta. Staff was very attentive and the food was delicious. We enjoyed Green Borscht, a mix of dumplings (although they were very small), stuffed cabbage, and black sea bass. We finished our meals with Medovyk (fantastic!) and Kyiv cake (less impressive, felt like it was frozen and mass produced but I might be wrong). Overall food was traditional and I highly recommend it.

Ruta Ukrainian Restaurant What a lovely introduction to Ukrainian food. We began with their appetizers and it was uphill all the way. Not only is their food prepared to delight but each dish was visually appealing that elevated our whole experience. I would recommend arriving for an early dinner and make reservations. We arrived at 5pm on a Sunday, by the time we were ordering our dessert, the restaurant was almost completely filled indoors and a few tables left available outdoors. There is metered parking on the road or paid parking structures not too far away. The restaurant is cozy with a welcoming atmosphere. Well appointed tables and an important part…comfortable chairs. We tried Ruta for the first time recently, and were very favorably impressed. The restaurant is cozy and comfortable, and offers traditional Ukrainian fare at reasonable prices. We started our meal with The Patriot drink, a tasty and sweet concoction that when served mimics the colors of the Ukrainian flag. For our appetizer we ordered Deruny (fried potato pancakes), which are crispy on the outside, and served with sour cream and a mushroom topping. For our entrees, we ordered the Meat Holubtsi (stuffed cabbage), which is served with sour cream, and the Chicken Kyiv with mashed potatoes. All of our food was served at medium-high temperature, not piping hot, which was perfect, and allowed us to enjoy the delicious flavors. This is true comfort food, tasty, hearty, and filling. The Ukrainian/Russian food 🥘 was quite good, although the prices for both the food and drinks 🍹 felt a bit on the higher side. The service was satisfactory. The seating, however, was fairly close together, which made it easy to overhear nearby conversations and limited privacy. Not ideal place for a date. Paid street parking 🅿️ in the area was somewhat difficult to find, but with a little patience it was possible. Overall, I would rate ⭐️ the experience 6.5 out of 10.

I've been there twice already, and I can't tell which was my favorite visit. Tried both Borschts, can recommend them. The main dishes are pretty good as well - they have some excellent Banosh. As for desserts, get the honey cake. They're all good, but that one's spectacular. There's a bar and table service, local and Ukrainian beverages, and excellent service all around. Great place for lunch or dinner!
