We randomly stopped by Q39 South on a Tuesday, and the fact that it was packed on a weekday was a great sign. The venue has a beautiful, modern open-floor plan with a really cool vibe. Even though it’s a dedicated BBQ joint, the menu is impressively balanced—they have everything from standard BBQ plates and sandwiches to some surprisingly good healthy options. The food was spot on. The menu is simple and easy to navigate, which I prefer. We tried the ribs, brisket, and chicken, and every bit of it was delicious, lean, and perfectly cooked. The ribs were a standout, and they have this honey sauce that is 10/10. We also had their onion appetizer, which is basically a really elevated version of a Bloomin' Onion. We tried Q39 and honestly, it feels more like a polished BBQ chain more than anything . The place was clean, service was fine, but the vibe was pretty meh. The fancy cloth napkins probably should’ve been our first sign this wasn’t going to be gritty, down-home BBQ. We ordered two Judge’s Plates: • Chicken, brisket, ribs • Brisket, pulled pork, ribs Sides were fries, street corn, baked beans, and potato salad. Let’s talk brisket — because that’s supposedly their thing. Big letdown. Dry, and it felt like they tried to save it by drizzling sauce and sprinkling fresh rub over the top of the thinly sliced two pieces. If brisket is your headline act, it can’t show up like that. Our server was great, and very attentive. She also allowed us to sign up for the birthday club, which meant a dessert platter based on how many birthdays we had at once. The kitchen was a bit behind for our lunches, even though we only had six people in our party. Our server made up for it by offering us a complimentary appetizer plate while we waited. She was also great with refreshing our drinks on time without much fuss. When our food did come, it was very well done and presented. It was cooked to perfection and everyone complimented how great it tasted. I think I should have asked for pickles on the side, as I kind of assume that most barbecue places provide pickle slices with their lunches or entrees. Kamryn did awesome for us. This was our first time at this restaurant and she took good care of us. Food was great. Service was great. Atmosphere was great. We will be back.
