Pub 235

The family brought dad for his birthday lunch. As a Valentine’s Day baby it’s hard trying for dinner so lunch it was. First time here and it was fantastic. As a chef and business owner it’s hard for me to find places I truly enjoy due to being somewhat critical while I’m there but from top to bottom the service and food were incredible. Our server was super friendly and attentive and did an amazing job. Mom got the Rubberita with sugar rimmed glass and rubber duckies floating on top and my sister a mule. The food did not disappoint. Dad got a cup of the seafood bisque to start and mom a side salad with blue cheese. We have been coming here for a couple years as kids like it and close to home. Basic menu but food quality was pretty consistent. Last visit with coworkers person with us had a long brown hair in her fries. This happens in every restaurant occasionally so not a huge deal, she just asked for new fries. The waitress gave so much attitude my coworkers agreed they would never go back, and have not. . My sons birthday this week and he wants to go to 235 as loves their fries (without the hair). Short version, we are seated in half full restaurant in a drafty room meant for summer. Burgers and sandwiches take over an hour to be served, not one server checked on table while we waited. It’s not surprising that for such a hidden location Pub 235 is so popular. They successfully maintain two separate spaces - a bar and dining room - with unique feels. All areas are wheelchair accessible and the staff worked seamlessly without any hesitation to accommodate. The menu isn't labeled well for dietary needs but the server was informative. Substitutions were made for gluten free needs, though not in a dedicated space. Unfortunately, one of my dishes was presented with a slice of wheat toast on it. Servings were substantial and flavors were fresh and flavorful.

The food and service were good here, but the prices are higher than comparable places. I had the chicken and shrimp pasta. 1 small chicken breast and 3 shrimp. $37. I added an additional side of broccoli + $7. I had balsamic vinaigrette with crumbled blue on my salad+ $2. $46 plus tax and tip and it was just shy of $60. No drink. No appetizer. No dessert. Like I said the food was good. But for $60 I expect more. Atmosphere is only a 3 because it was very loud.

The Garlic Parm fries are the best French fries in Rochester. The sandwiches are all delicious from their burgers to their paninis and their steak sandwiches. The cocktails are enjoyable, and the wait staff is always kind. We love coming here!
