Perkins American Food Co.

This place is awesome. Been here many times over the years and they have a wide assortment of food for any time of day. I love their breakfast pancakes. The staff is super responsive and friendly. Unless it’s right as they’re opening or a holiday, this place is never truly busy. Not too expensive either. I usually spend around $10-$25 here in total and am in and out within 30-45 mins. All in all, this is a warm, friendly place to dine either alone, with family, or really any sized group. There’s plenty of booths and seating options available to accommodate you. I’d go so far as to say this is one of the top 3 restaurants in the city of Ames.

This is probably the most unclean restaurant that isn’t shut down by the health department. While the food was okay, the burger was cooked to death the first time, and unseasoned the second. I don’t know what the hell is going on in the kitchen; fries covered in coarse ground black pepper. The pies were good.

When it comes to trying to pick a favorite staff member it’s impossible. I wave to the cook every chance I get because he always delivers. Locals like to call the Ankeny location “the fancy Perkins” but after eating here for almost every day in the past 6 months they’re wrong. Ames location pays attention to every detail. Serves the most delicious food with the most warm service. I cannot pick a favorite and trust me I know them all. But if I must pick a favorite it’s Andre, because he has as many siblings as I do!!!! Jacob C. Was our server and he made sure to check in on us and see if we were ready every once in a while. We've had him as a server before and each time we've come in he's been amazing. I love all the staff there and it's quite fun going in at the middle of the night. No complaints 👌

I went to Perkins a few weeks ago and not only was the food incredible, but the service was speedy. Josh specifically went out of his way to make sure we didn't have just a good experience, but a great one. He was so professional and made us feel like he really cared that we left with a smile on our faces. We will definitely be back soon, especially if Josh will be there! Thanks Josh!
