Penny's Diner

Late in the evening as we were heading to a hotel for the night, we had plans to stop at Arbys for your average late evening meal. We accidentally missed the parking lot, and in the process of turning around, we spied a little building touting red and blue rope lights and a small, unassuming flashing 'Open' sign. My husband, ever the culinary adventurer, was intrigued. A quick Google map search showed it was a place called 'Pennys Diner'. Reviews seemed mostly positive, with a few standard low star reviews here and there. "Should we try it?" he asked. I just shrugged and said I was game. As we pulled into the parking lot, hubs said he was a little apprehensive as it was an empty lot. I told him it was going to potentially be the best or worst experience we've had in awhile. What a unique place to stop in Missouri Valley, IA, just off I-29, behind McDonald's. It's just like a 1950's diner. The malts are handmade and delicious...so many options. They bring you the extra in a silver mixing cup. Food is great, too. A family tradition-type place for happy memories!

This place was hopping. My husband an I both ordered the Cowboy Chilli Cheese Burger. He had fries and I had tots. It was so good. There was one waitress at the time we went and it was a full house. She did amazing. Shelley was doing her thing like a seasoned waitress would.

Cutest little 50s style diner in my area! Love the decor, great service, yummy food, and reasonable prices.

Really disappointed here. My wife and I tried it on our way through and thought an old American Diner would be awesome! The atmosphere when you walk in was exactly what you would expect. However that's where the positives ended. The server was absolutely dreadful. She was angry and irritated the entire time. We sat ourselves (which we found out you were supposed to do after standing at the front counter awhile). She didn't come to our table for 10 minutes (we were only the 3rd table when we got there), so we thought maybe we were supposed to order via the QR code at every table.
