UPDATE: Just got the check, they tip themselves 20% (mediocre service) and there is a credit card surcharge. Also, the owner told us they couldn't give us the plastic to go containers because they were too expensive and they were only for takeout orders, but we saw another table get them. Not accommodating! We had a party of 8, but they only had 1 table that fit more than 6 (already occupied) and they would not allow the tables to be pushed together so everyone could sit at the same table. Floors were very dirty. Service was very slow. Entrées took over an hour to come out. 2 people got their food, then 20 min later the rest came out and the fried chicken, pork chops and okra were luke warm. Huge portions! Im a Houston native that just moved to the DMV. I came here today 02/24/26 right after taking my bar exam to unwind and relax. I reviewed this restaurant was 3days before coming because I’ve heard great things. And as I’m here they have not disappointed. Im writing this review as I sit in the booth. My server is named Reagan and she is great. She’s attentive and we’re talking as if I already knew her. The vibe here is beautiful. I love the spot saxophone playing in the background, and I heard great things about the owner, hopefully I meet her on my next visit. Now to the food and drinks. I orders the Laila’s 9th ward and the Bistro Rita (lime) both 10/10.. for the appetizer I ordered a bow of gumbo…I was skeptical, but it was great! I did a search for highly rated restaurants near me and this popped up. Based on the website and the activities advertised, I wasn't sure if it was for families or primarily adults. We took a chance and brought the kids. First impression - nondescript exterior brought to mind "one of those little hidden treasures", and once you step in the space is larger than expected. Nice variety of seating in a clean and comfortable space. The place gives off a comfortable, relaxed vibe. A place you would expect to have its regulars. Reviews had a mix of experience where service wasn't great, so I was not sure what to expect there, but it was phenomenal! We selected a seat and as soon as we settled we had menus in our hands. We had brunch there, and from the moment we walked in, it was amazing! The vibe, the music, the service! Despite probably being the world's pickiest eater, I very much enjoyed the food! Started off with the salmon bites, then had the red velvet chicken and waffles, and it was all superb! Not to mention the endless mimosas were the icing on the cake! Will definitely be going back!!

The waitress was very attentive and management was very accommodating. The atmosphere was great, I liked the ambience and it’s at a great location. The food was great and portions were decent. The food came out hot and this was a first as I go out in groups and other places give the food warm so was very happy. Definitely would come again.
