Orange County Public Library (Main Library)

I really want to like the library (it's a library after all) however, every time I've gone in here over the last 10 years- really since they've rebuilt- there is an air of snobbiness to the entire center, especially the staff. I haven't really had a pleasant experience going to the library, despite having been over the course of multiple years at different times for different experiences. I'm a library person and really enjoy going to libraries and all the different community spaces that they offer, and this library does offer quite a bit of different community-based activities and resources. I love how welcoming the Hillsborough library is and how well it runs. Resources are straightforward and easy to access, the atmosphere feels like a cozy family-oriented place.

This is a really beautiful library with super friendly and helpful staff. I have seen some very pleasant interactions between staff and patrons (sometimes struggling to use technology) and I would be proud to have a library like this as my home library. I especially appreciate the helpfulness and kind nature of a gentleman named Andrew who works on the second floor. After a couple visits he remembered my name and has been great. This is how customer service should be and I'm very thankful to this branch and the wonderful, dedicated staff here.

Pros; The staff here are very helpful, polite and efficient. The Hoopla and Libby sites are amazing and every library should have them. The Hoopla site lets you download a movie for 3 days, no going to a library, no returning! It can all be done on your phone or mobile device! When ready to check out - use the Bibliotheca machine, swipe your card and materials in a flash!. Cons; First off the parking is too small for such a large county library. It is better to park across the street in the town parking lot off of West King Street. More parking places and easier to get out. The material in the library is limited because it does not share with all the other Orange County Librarys. It shares with the Carrboro branch and a thing called the Carrboro Cybrary.
