On the Fly Diner

If you’re in Syracuse, NY, On the Fly Café is a must-visit. From the moment your coffee arrives in a handmade cup that sets the tone for the meal, you know you’re in for something special. The food is outstanding, the service is top-notch, and there’s a subtle touch of Louisiana in both the atmosphere and the flavors. I enjoyed the biscuit and gravy with fried chicken, the brisket omelet, and the classic breakfast, which came with a single massive pancake that was nothing short of a masterpiece. Every dish feels like a little adventure. This is family-style dining with flair, hearty portions, bold flavors, and a warm, welcoming vibe. If you love discovering great spots with personality, On the Fly Café is a true destination breakfast that won’t disappoint.

I love this restaurant and the people that run it. Chef Gray really knows his Cajun food and how to make it absolutely delicious. Server Tracy is wonderful, as is helper Olivia. My favorite menu item is Gumbo. This is some of the best Gumbo I have ever had, and I've had lots. I also love the biscuits (fresh made every morning), Shrimp Po' Boy, Breakfast with Bacon, and Grit Cake. I still have to try the giant Fried Chicken Sandwich (dark meat), Biscuits & Gravy, and a few other menu items. No problem. I can make it there once a week easily. It's a 20 minute drive from Solvay, but worth every minute.

Wow! Stopped in while traveling through Syracuse and found a true gem. Service could not be nicer. Food was 10/10. Bathrooms clean 👌🏼 The shrimp is the bounciest, juiciest, most tender shrimp I’ve ever had. Will absolutely be stopping in whenever we travel through the area.

We've been wanting to go here for about a year now, and I'm beyond happy we finally did. Everything about this place just made me feel warm and cozy. The inside of the restaurant felt like a genuine love letter to New Orleans. Our server was the sweetest and most kind person on the planet, and despite working as the only server, we got our food relatively quickly and she was very helpful with recommendations! The food was by far some of the best that I've ever had in my life, hands down. The Shrimp Po Boy was beyond perfect, the gumbo was perfectly rich and warm, the collard greens (which were mixed with broccoli rhab and kale because they were running low on just collard) were PERFECT, The Crawfish Mac was perfect in every way possible, and the hush puppies were out of this world!!! I came into town on a quick 2-day trip and I'm glad I found On The Fly! I ordered the chicken sandwich which was incredible, not to mention the hush puppies which were the best hush puppies I've ever had in my life. The food was perfect, but the service was top notch with bottomless coffee and friendly servers always checking up on you. Thank you all! 10/10
