Norwell Public Library

I’m not sure what to make of my experience so I figured I would write about it here. It’s freezing temps this week and lots of snow from the blizzard that came in so we decided to go the library. it was crowded, to be expected, i’m sure lots of people had the same idea as us. I bring my four year old into the kids area and it’s busy and fun! I don’t expect to come into this area and have the most quiet peaceful experience, but I am not going to lie, I was bothered by what occurred. I could not stop being approached and my space was consistently invaded. We tried to play a board game at the tables and another toddler ran up to our table and ripped off alllll our pieces. A few moments later his mom was present and apologizing but still a bit unfortunate for us. It took several minutes to ge

Gorgeous library with mostly glass outer walls for a view of the idyllic scenery surrounding the library. Several nice seperate rooms for different types of material with plenty of cozy spots to read or work. Even a small book shop.

Beautiful library. Sometimes it’s quiet, sometimes it’s raucously loud—you never know what to expect. Both patrons and staff will have conversations at full volume. If you’re coming to read a book it’s like a game of Russian roulette. There is a reading room, but their policy is to keep the doors wide open, all the time. I asked for the reasoning behind this, and the staff told me it was because "people go in and out." Non sequitur for sure!

I hadn’t had a chance to check out the new library since moving back to town and WOW is it beautiful!!! The space is brightly lit with natural lighting and is very, very inviting. All the librarians have been very helpful. As a new mom I really enjoy going to Story Time with Marissa on Mondays. Story Time lasts a half hour and Marissa incorporates lots of songs which my son really enjoys (he’s still too young to fully process books) and I’ve enjoyed learning the sign language that goes along with the songs! I also appreciate that NPL offers discounted Museum tickets that way I can take my family to a museum without getting overwhelmed by the cost. Thank you Norwell Public Library, you are the true treasure in our little town.
