Newport News Health Department

This is my first visit and I’m cringing. I came in for birth control for a peace of mind. I am a 35 year old woman. I felt I was being talked to as if I was a teenager that doesn’t understand her body. One of the nurse practitioners; of course Black - got all in my space regarding a questions that I might’ve got confused initially reading it. I’m currently sitting here trying to stay because what I came for is very important but I’ll never revisit this place again. I see why it’s so empty.

I called the williamsburg public health but it was permanently closed and was forwarded to Newport News Public Health in order to get my two year old's shot series completed. Appointments were two weeks out, but I was fine with that because many family physicians in Williamsburg said they didn't do shots for children anymore which I found ridiculous. Anyway, I arrived on time for my appointment and signed in at the security desk to the left that had w armed security officers. They escorted me to the clinic room down the right hallway. I filled out some forms which took 15min then we were seen not too long after. Staff were really friendly and they had some hotwheels cars for kids in the waiting area. Cleanest Place ever. But the two ladies ( one has braids with glasses, the other has curls with glasses) in the clinic front desk are so rude it made the whole visit trash. They cut you off when talking. Snatch ID’s. Make you stand there for 30 minutes then when you sit down it’s “Sir how can I help you?” With no one in line. More focused of their personal conversations. Just rude and nasty. Mean mugging when you’re sitting in the waiting room as if they’re disgusted with you. They deserve to be reported and removed just from the two experiences I had there.

Updated Review: 8/2024 Answered the phone right away. The new location is clean and seems better organized. Staff was wonderful, only downside was we waited 2 hours to be seen. The kids are ready for school now :) Original Review: 8/2023 Could use clearer direction on how to schedule an appointment for immunizations instead of being redirected repeatedly just to be hung up on Got there to be asked "did you call?" Told them the problem for them to say "yeah, the lines not connected" If you knew why did you ask and how am I supposed to navigate this? At least they have an open event for walkins next week

I needed to get a copy of my marriage license for insurance purposes. I called ahead of time to ask a few questions, and I spoke to Ruth. She was very helpful and answered all my questions. I had to set an appointment to come in due to Covid, but she was able to get me in the same day, which worked perfectly! Once I got there, she walked me through the process and was able to retrieve my record for me in less than ten minutes! She is super nice, friendly, and knowledgeable, and goes above and beyond! Thank you, Ruth, for making it such an easy process!
