Newburyport Public Library

For a town that's supposed to be so opulent and affluent one would think they'd sport a better library. Went once and never again. No parking and if you find parking you have to pay for it. Inside building is dark, yuk and some kinda maze to get around. Just don't even bother and if people are leaving good reviews ? They lie about other things too believe me. For the amount of property tax and other revenues this town pulls in I'm sure they can build a quick no frills library elsewhere in the town with parking and a playground.

This gorgeous red brick library consists of the Georgian style Tracy Mansion and two additions built of matching brick. A sign outside the original portion of the library details the history behind its construction and the famous men who visited during its time as a private residence.

I would absolutely give this library a 5/5 except they don’t let you get a library card if you’re outside of Newburyport (on PI). And the Byfield one is further away and (in my opinion, calm down) isn’t as nice. Still nice! But not the same. Since libraries seem to struggle with funding - there should be a paid membership option. That way you could get more visitors and make some more money! I know a good handful of people that would gladly pay a monthly / yearly fee for a library card there. (Even if they have to limit the option to surrounding towns only - for obvious reasons)

I love this library. I visit on a regular basis and find it to be excellent. Great workspaces including the meeting rooms and the wing where you can use cell phone and hold small meetings. The staff is helpful and pleasant. I took out a book and didn't return it by due the due date and discovered they renew it automatically. Great place to visit and work.

What a great 1st time visit I had today! I made an appointment to visit the Special Collections area. I was pleasantly surprised when Sharon had a table, with the volumes I inquired about, laid out for me. She also pointed out some other volumes that may be helpful to my genealogy research. I look forward to going back.
