Monk's Bar & Grill

Picked this local bar and grill because it was close to our hotel and we just got into town for a few days. Found it based on reviews online. I had the brisket sandwich and tots, my wife had the smash burger and sweet potato fries. Wow, just really good. Our server was friendly, attentive, and helpful with our questions. We couldn't eat all our food. My wife's comment was you cant underestimate the difference a good bun makes. I hadn't thought about that, but that was definitely the case here. I also had a New Glarus Back Forty Bock, which was on tap. Also wow. Hope to pick up a case or two before we head back to Illinois. Returning customers!!! We've been coming to the Dells for years and stopping at Monks is always a must while we're here! I couldn't believe I hadn't done a review yet! The food is so good! The cheese curds are a staple for sure! Each time we've received fast, friendly service and left completely stuffed. As if that wasn't enough to leave a 5-star review, the kid's meals come served on a frisbee!!

Overall food and service was great. Burgers were cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is like a typical bar with multiple levels. If I were to make a couple of suggestions, the onion petals we ordered were ok but way over priced for half an order and the amount you get for such. Also, eventhough the bathroom appeared clean, the floor was sticky. Other then that, I would recommend coming to the the iconic downtown Dells restaurant for a delicious burger. Lastly, when walking in and out of the restaurant, be careful as there is a slight slope!

Food was decent. I thought it was a bit pricey, but everything is more expensive these days and it's on the main street of the Dells.... I got the street tacos and a side of fries (and a water) for about $18 before tip. I did like that they had small 2-person tables by the bar since I went by myself. The tacos had a great sauce (it is jalapeno so it is on the spicier side). The chicken was excellent. I do wish the tortilla was grilled a bit, it was just a raw flour tortilla.

So many places that claim to have good burgers exist. So many of them don't know the first thing about what makes a good burger. Monk's is a delightful place and they know how to make a quality burger. They understand the concept of medium-rare will have a pink center. They understand the concept of fresh a crisp vegetables makes the difference. I can't comment on the big fancy location, but the hole in the wall downtown is fantastic.
