Minero Mexican Grill & Cantina

REALLY liked Minero. After chatting with a couple at the bar, they said it used to be Fat Hen. (I knew there was something familiar about the place when I pulled in.) Fat Hen is missed and was an excellent restaurant from several years back, closed when the owner's retired. Minero owner's have expanded the footprint of the original building. You'll find a main dining room, double-sided bar that accommodates the main dining room and the closed in, porch-style dining area, which is where I parked myself. TV with sports on are in the porch area. There is also a vast outside dining area. It is perfect for Charleston's fall weather, but looks well shaded for summertime. Freshly made scratch margaritas await you AND they have a Tequila List -- gotta love that -- yall know me, I know I do.

Love the patio! Always great service and food. Tried the limited time chipotle lime wings- sooo good! We usually get fajitas and tacos, but tried the burger and salad this time and great all around.

Absolutely LOVE this place. A wonderful refreshing break from the standard fare you can find at most other Mexican places. Shout out to Emma, Hannah and Connor at the bar for always being so friendly and attentive, although all of the staff provides stellar service. The managers are always around checking that things are running smoothly. The food is always a 10/10 for me, have yet to have a bad experience. Can't beat the burritos! The staff is incredibly knowledgeable about all their dishes, and are able to make suggestions for dietary/allergy issues. And the large spacious back patio is a great atmosphere for any season! If you're looking for a different but special experience, don't skip out on this one!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Minero’s Mexican Grill – John’s Island, SC Absolutely love this spot! Minero’s on James Island serves up some of the most authentic and flavorful Mexican food around. The queso is a must—creamy, rich, and downright addictive. I’m obsessed with the street corn, and the shrimp dish with the corn cakes is next-level delicious. My husband can’t stop raving about the birria burrito—he says it’s the best he’s ever had! The vibe is casual and fun, perfect for a night out or a quick bite. I would give Minero a 4.5 if it was possible, dog friendly garden area, server was great. Tacos were great... For the most part I got 3 and my wife got 3, the only one that was not great was the crunchy taco, the meat was really salty. The catfish taco was awesome and so were the churros and dulce dipping sauce. Drinks were great.
