Mililani Public Library

I recently moved from San Diego, where the public library system is very family friendly with generous renewal policies and a welcoming atmosphere for young readers. Mililani Public Library has a nice collection, but I have found the environment surprisingly restrictive for children. During our visit, my two year old was excited to find Curious George and Amelia Bedelia books. She is very little, but the security guard fussed at her enthusiasm. It immediately dimmed the moment and changed the tone of our visit.🥺😡 Encouraging early literacy means allowing some joyful conversation and natural excitement. If that spark is discouraged, you risk losing future readers. We ended up leaving and going to the on base libraries instead, which are much more welcoming to families. I truly hope Milila

Went on a Saturday, during what was supposed to be the hours of operations, and this location was closed. Sad. Update: went the next Saturday and the library was open! Decent service, great selection of books, audio books, ebooks, you can check out ukuleles. Plenty of stations to use the internet as well. All in all, it’s a pretty good neighborhood library.

This tidy and well maintained third space is a bastion of community in our capitalist hellscape. Compassionate staff go above and beyond to resolve issues and help you find the literature you're craving. I would loiter here again.

update.. after more encounters with those who work there: I would not want to stick around there to work or study. the staff and security are very strict and it makes you feel uncomfortable. it makes me sad that they treat adults so poorly, that the high schoolers probably feel even less welcomed here. also it’s pretty crazy to me that this is the only library where you aren’t even allowed water? our water bottles had to be on the floor at all times and if we need to drink water we had to leave the building.. also no one was helpful with finding books, just got told “under the purple sign” when there are purple signs everywhere? no one seems like they enjoy their job here. however, the books are very organized so this will be my stop and go library when I need to walk around. will not be

Ive been taking my kids here for a few weeks now and they enjoy our little trips. I however can't find a good portion of books on my own TBR list. The staff is sweet and assist whenever I ask
