Mi Viejo Restaurante

Stopped in at Mi Viejo while passing through Mayo and was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. I ordered the fajitas with all the meats, and they came out perfectly cooked, sizzling hot, and with a portion so generous it was ideal for sharing. I also grabbed some nachos with queso and guacamole. The guac was almost as good as what I make at home and honestly, that’s as good as you can reasonably expect from any restaurant. Fresh, flavorful, and a great complement to everything else. If you’re traveling through the small town of Mayo and craving authentic, delicious Mexican food, this is absolutely the spot. Great food, great portions, and a great stop on the journey.

My friend and I ate here with our daughters while staying at Cindy’s Motel. Food was excellent! Authentic meals and super fresh herbs and veggies. We will be back when we stay at the motel again and visit all the springs in the area.

I recently visited this place and while the food was decent, it was not particularly outstanding. Unfortunately, the experience was let down by the long wait time for the food to arrive. While the flavors were average and the dishes were satisfactory, the delay in service made the dining experience less enjoyable.

The flavors and portions were over the top. Zero stars on the service. We were on the second basket of chips when the waitress finally brought us our drinks. Refills never came. The Viejo Burrito was delicious. Some of the orders were not correct but we were afraid to ask them to fix it because of the time. From the time we sat down to the time we got our food, it was just over an hour! I probably won't ever eat in again but I'd try take out. I don't want to gig the place solely on a poor server. Locals tell me this was not typical.

We went for lunch, about 12:30, on a Friday and got seated right away. Received drinks, chips and salsa and ordered queso and churiso which came out really fast. The server was quick to get our order in. I ordered the carnitas and my hubby ordered the chicken, queso on a bed of rice. They both came with your choice of taco shell. They both had a very good taste. The meat was pull apart tender and there was enough for us to take home and have a decent dinner. Highly recommended.
