Fantastic burger and hot dog for a quick lunch. We ordered a cheese burger and a hotdog “all the way” meaning including everything, cole slaw, mustard, onion etc) Burger and hot dog were so tasty that we ordered another hotdog just to satisfy our palate 😅 Price are definitely cheaper than all the famously fast food burger places. Service was fast, efficient! I had to take one star away from atmosphere because of the 2 big trash cans were right at the entrance, I guessed it’s practical but probably if they can put at some corner (?)
Passed through Elizabethtown with family and saw their good ratings so we wanted to try out the hotdogs and hamburger. Love the old school vibe and simple menu…hot dog or hamburger, you choose from chips or cookies, they have the option of bottled drinks or fountain. Sweet tea was really good. Hotdogs and hamburger were fresh, I had chili and slaw. They were a little heavy on the slaw. More chili than slaw would of been great, same for the hamburger. The kids enjoy their ketchup only hotdogs. Definitely worth the stop.
So iconic, most simple serving snd atmosphere for great hotdogs and burgers! Wonder buns must be steamed since they are so soft. My wife and I both had a hotdog and burgers each for under $15. All the way includes mustard, chili, onion and slaw. My burger had no slaw while my wife had a cheeseburger with just mustard. Really appreciate the locals at the resale shop telling us how Melvin’s is written up in Southern Living. We traveled from Wilmington to buy old bricks here so I hope to return one day. Easier parking out back than on the main street out front. BIG UPDATE, they do take credit cards now!
The ladies behind the counter were very nice. I do feel they try to move so quickly, that efficiency is lost. My order was ready before I finished speaking. Thus, I got to the table and my hot dog order was incorrect. The hot dogs were barely lukewarm. So I said to myself, "perhaps the cole slaw cooled it down." That's not the case because my hot dog without slaw was barely warm also. The texture of the burgers were horrid! It had a grainy consistency. They were lukewarm also. I couldn't finish my food. I'll never understand the excitement behind this place. I drove approximately a hour to get here. A huge letdown!
Always worth the trip for a Carolina Style cheeseburger! Chill, Slaw, and mustard. As for the service, have your money ready because it's made in about one minute.
