Melrose Public Works City Yard

Having it open 7:30AM - 2:45 PM on working days, not even on Fridays, defeats the purpose of this City Yard's very existence. Either it is open on weekends, or just close it and use that money for improving pick up services.

I am shocked at the very poor maintenance of the city streets. One of the worst in Mass. There are so many pot holes and horrendous patch work it's hard not to believe that people have to replace their shocks once a year. And what is up with all the NO TURN ON RED signs. I love the downtown and beautiful neighborhoods but I can't believe that citizens aren't up in arms.

I have lived in many different towns. After 8 years of living in Melrose, I can say our DPW rocks!!!! I noticed a minor main water leak called it in. 5 minutes latter DPW was on it. I drive all over town, I see the DPW working constantly, getting it done. It's so easy to complain when things don't go right. The Melrose DPW is in it to win it and that makes Melrose a better place to live. Thanks for caring everyone at the DPW. I appreciate it. Dave

I make it a point to go down to the city yard to let one of the bosses know that the parks department is the best around here. We have the nicest parks in Melrose. These guys do a great job and they deserve a lot of credit I had to let people know how lucky we are to have them always keeping a Parks clean, accessible and perfectly maintained. I don’t know. How anyone could have the gall to complain about anything. These guys work. Their butts off in some of the dirtiest conditions and get up and go back and do it the next day so instead of complaining more people should praise and thank them and let them know it. Only open certain days (the days I was at dialysis, during my dialysis hours almost, 7:45 - 2:45) but changed my schedule to M,W,F so much more convenient. Great having DPW so close to my home (~1.5 mikes). People who use it don't think; they drive in and park parallel to the dumping area instead of backing up to it. This only allows half to a third of the amount of vehicles in at one time. They should enforce that or maybe draw lines (like parking lots) perpendicular to the dumping areas.
