McCowan Memorial Library

This review is specifically about the Library Storytime with Ms. Karen. We LOVE this library. Ms. Karen philosophy of inclusion and supporting kids' development is obvious. She offers Storytime every week day at 10:30 am- you can't beat that! In summer we've had Storytime outside! You sign in on the door, child's name, zip code, and age. If there's more the 20 kids, she does close the door. Mondays, may have a special play day, like pretend play babies, matchbox car, water play that you have to preregister for because it's popular and the additional items take up space. The children's library section has a computer, puppet play, train table, imaginative dress up, Lego table, doll house, kitchen with pretend food, coloring table, and cash register. I highly recommend coming prior to Story

The Pitman McCowan Memorial Library is welcoming, inclusive, and an important part of the community! 💕 The staff are friendly and kind, the library is clean and comfortable, and I always look forward to the fun events and pictures on their calendar and social media pages.

This is a pleasant library with nice lighting and a wide selection of books, movies and Internet access. Unfortunately, practically every time I stop in the staff is loudly speaking about something. Very loudly. I excused it the first couple of times, but I've been coming here for about 2 years and it's every visit as of late. There's signage and postings regarding quiet hours, especially after 12 pm via the children's library desks. Patrons are to follow the golden rule, so why are some staff members not? They're helpful, sure, but a key facet of libraries is silence, or at least attempts at it.

I love this library! It is great for the younger kids that I Nanny - I can spend up to three hours there happily and easily. I also love it for myself as an adult, I feel safe and welcomed, and there’s experienced people in Library in Square that I’ve always helped look for books or help me research something. Great little spot. Book displays are amazing and relevant and change depending on season, month, holidays etc. this library is alive!

I’m consistently impressed by McCowan Memorial Library’s vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. The children’s events are outstanding — a packed calendar with storytimes, crafts, and toddler “pretend & play” sessions that keep young minds engaged and excited . Whether it’s a whimsical craft stick monster-truck project or imaginative play sessions for toddlers, there’s always something fun for kids. Beyond events, the staff here are some of the friendliest you’ll ever meet — they know regulars by name, genuinely care, and are always eager to help with recommendations or assistance. The warm, positive energy they bring truly enhances every visit. The atmosphere is wonderful — bright, clean, and inviting.
